Film will include unseen home movies, new interviews

Indie producer Z-Machine has launched production on “Before the End: Jim Morrison Comes of Age,” focusing on the singer’s life before becoming a superstar.

The documentary will include interviews with family and friends, many of whom are speaking about Morrison for the first time, as well as never-before-seen home movies and photographs.

Z-Machine is run by filmmakers Jeff and Jess Finn, whose previous work includes the independent doc “Strange Septembers: The Hill Abduction & the Exeter Encounter.”

Morrison and keyboardist Ray Manzarek founded the Doors in 1965 and the group released seven albums before Morrision died in Paris at age 27 in 1971.

“Before the End: Jim Morrison Comes of Age” includes interviews with his brother Andy, Florida State U. roommate Bryan Gates, Morrison’s UCLA film instructor Bill Adams and Doors roadie Gareth Blyth. Filmmakers have also held off-the-record conversations with his sister, Anne Morrison-Chewning; girlfriends, Tandy Martin and Mary Werbelow; and friend Alain Ronay.
